Between July and November, most Canberra designers are faced with the challenge of working on government Annual Reports, and adhering to guidelines that can make the finished product less appealing than it could have been (in a design sense anyway). Can anyone tell me why we can't bleed on the internal pages? ... Yes thats one of the frustrating rules in the guidelines ... we all know its not a cost factor!

This year we had the opportunity of designing Safe Work Australia's (SWA) Annual Report.

The brief was fairly open, so we wanted to do something different, but within the guidelines. We suggested using 2 colours throughout with one of the colours being fluoro (orange or green, either would have worked).  This would have added something really special to the production and made it stand out from the hundreds of other B5 Annual Reports produced this year.

Our proposal was accepted with two small changes ... 1. No fluoro and 2. use colour images on the cover! Yes my fellow designers ... feel my pain! but at least there were no layout changes, they liked it! Woohoo.
